Building a Life Worth Living
I am building a life because I want to live a harmonious and sustainable lifestyle. I want everything in my environment to work together, allowing me to live in peace within myself. My life means something. It emits love, courage, and determination. My life calls me to greatness because God is nothing short of amazing. When I think about all these things collectively, I always come back to one thing: health. To me, health is more than the absence of illness. It is the foundation that allows every other part of my life to flourish. I want to live as long as I can, as healthy as I can. That means becoming more conscious of what I put into my body and my mind. The foods I eat, the drinks I consume, the entertainment I absorb, and the habits I practice all shape the quality of my life. They either move me closer to the life I am building or further away from it. Movement is essential in this journey. Strength, flexibility, mobility, and endurance all contribute to aging well and feeling at home in my own body. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about sacrifice—choosing to delay certain comforts today to create something greater tomorrow. It's the practice of doing a little every single day. Sometimes I go to the gym for only ten minutes before I leave. Will ten minutes give me Angela Bassett arms or a flat stomach? Absolutely not. But those ten minutes reinforce something even more valuable: I showed up for myself. Whether it's ten minutes or an hour, those are the moments that matter because they strengthen the habit of keeping promises to myself. We get what we put in. It's that simple. Some things in life require effort. They require consistency, discipline, and a willingness to bet on ourselves. To invest our energy everywhere except within ourselves is a risk I am no longer willing to take.
