Heartbeats Apart

As I sit and read, I feel your presence through the ink— our hearts still linked. Rain splatter shatters an illusion. You mattered so much to me. The pulse of my heart still beats to the rhythm of your body. In the event we never share the same proximity again— the weight of these words will hold me in solace, reminding me my love was real. Space and distance reflected my worth to us—simultaneously. But the hurt carries me through lonely nights. Your face, embers tearing from my eyes. Future unexplained due to past transgressions. I miss you— don’t think that will ever change. I learn to live with the ache for my own sake. Love’s forsaken night shifts into the day’s passive attempts to forget you.
